The What

Audioli is an occasional newsletter by, me, Brendan Francis Newnam, about what I’m listening to as well links to other things in culture that get my blood pumping. “Audioli” is a word I made-up that makes me smile. The root of “Audioli” is, of course, “audio” — same goes for this newsletter.

The Why

The short answer is: I’m not good for much, but I have great taste in podcasts and I’ve been covering culture for - gulp - decades.. Every week without fail someone asks me what I’m listening to — Audioli is the place where I’ll share my answer.

The long answer…

I have been working in audio since the turn of the century, first at Fresh Air with Terry Gross, later on at the national business show Marketplace and then, for a long while, at The Dinner Party Download, a culture podcast I co-created that went on to become a nationally-distributed radio show. In addition, I’ve had a hand in creating a number of critically-acclaimed podcasts including The Paris Review Podcast and the Met Opera’s Aria Code. I currently make critically-acclaimed audiobooks for Pushkin Industries - an audio-publishing company created by Jacob Weisberg and Malcolm Gladwell.

And at heart I’m just a fan constantly scanning the horizon for the next cool podcast or radio piece.
